Swifts:
Our Summer Squadrons
The fascinating lives of swifts form the topic for the next meeting
of the Wildlife Trust, Huntingdonshire Local Group, on Wednesday
8th February 2012 at 7.30pm at Brampton Memorial Hall, Thrapston
Road, Brampton.
Tonight we are pleased
to welcome Edward Mayer. Ed has recently taken early retirement,
and has used his time to set up the local ‘London Swifts’ and international
‘Swift Conservation’ websites. He also provides advice on swift
conservation to the government, building professionals and public.
Ed has had a lifelong
love of swifts and noticed their severe decline in the 1990s. He
realised that re-roofing of Edwardian properties was blocking swifts
from returning to their homes. As Ed says ‘swifts are on the brink
of disappearing and we need to build new nests and protect existing
ones to ensure their survival’.
Anyone interested is
very welcome to attend. Suggested donation £2.00 members; £2.50
non-members. Please meet at Brampton Memorial Hall, Thrapston Road,
Brampton, PE28 4TB at 7.30pm. For further details contact: George
Cottam on 01480 450809 or email georgecottam@dsl.pipex.com
